Whats on
What's On?
Well, last summer was a very hectic one with the new build completing in August. Now we settle down and hope people enjoy the fruits of our labours! The new Garden Dining Room with 180 degree views of the river, garden and meadows has already been enjoyed by many. As ever, we still use our own and local produce when possible and still offer a very varied breakfast menu.
The Riverside Suites have proved a great hit. Popular with everyone including wheelchair users and families. Capable of catering for groups and special occasions. Last summer we had people fishing from their patio area! And the coarse fishing here is very good.
Good news! Hedwig (barn owl) has been spotted in the farmyard. We're hoping she will again nest in our chimney and produce a family for us all to see. Starling roosts continue with West Hay Reserve only 2 minutes drive away. Hedghogs are still hibernating.
This week the tomato seeds were sown for our greenhouse and it will soon be time to start on the flower seeds so that we have a garden full of colour for everyone to sit out in enjoy.
We're happy to announce that Double-Gate won the prestidgious England for Excellence Award for the South West. We continue to improve and this spring will see a Master Ensuite in the farmhouse with four poster bed for those romantic, special get aways.
Jasper and Paddy (goldies) continue to welcome people and Jessie our tabby cat still checks out guests for suitability! Sadly Jack (grey tabby) was put to sleep just before Christmas. With a severe blockage, it was the kindest thing to do. So at writing, I find myself missing my office and sofa companion of many years.A lot of regulars are going to miss him as he was quite a character.
Farming news. This year Double-Gate will have a new tenant on the land and the farm will be reverting back to dairying. The farmer concerned is keen to rear young stock for his herd here, so it will be nice to see cattle back. We await developments.
Thank you to everyone who kindly sent us Xmas cards, it's nice to know you feel like one of the family and we enjoy catching up with you all. All we can say is come and see us again this year.
Best wishes to you all,
Terry and Hilary.
